I hit up one of my faves, Majani Soulful Vegan Cuisine and oh my goodness, y'all, it was so tantalizing!
This black-owned, South Shore (7167 S Exchange, Chicago) vegan restaurant features a 100% plant-based menu and everything is made from scratch.
When I entered, I was greeted by staff and the first thing I noticed was how good it smelled in the restaurant. I knew I was about to eat good!
A few moments later, Chef Tsadakeeyah walked in and we finally had the chance to meet in person. Something I noticed about him that I really loved, is that he took the time to greet every patron in the restaurant and every patron that walked in.
We briefly spoke about his 30+ years of being a vegan, his wife, Majani co-owner/pastry chef and shared some of our favorite vegan spots we both liked to frequent.
So down to the food! Here's what I ordered:
Soul Bowl w/Mac & cheese, Greens, Yams and a Crab Cake: Oh my goodness, this bowl was so scrumptious and satisfying. I really loved the sweet and savory flavors and the textures of the food. I will definitely be back for this.
BBQ Cauliflower: I love their cauliflower with all my heart! It is a must have for me.
Jerk Tofu Sandwich: I usually don’t do tofu, but after stalking their Instagram page prior to visiting, decided to try it. I'm so glad I did, because it was so good! I loved the smoky jerk flavor and the texture of the tofu.
Oyster Mushroom Tacos: This was my first time trying them and whew chyyyld!! These were my favorite! These were perfect in every way and I could not get enough of the flavors. They used some sauces on the taco that complimented the well-seasoned and crisp oyster mushrooms.
Ginger lemonade: I sipped on this and was pleasantly surprised at just how much ginger bite the drink had. I enjoyed it but it may be overpowering to those that aren't ginger lovers.
Overall—Every single bite was tantalizing. Next time, I won't forget to order dessert!
